Patricia Lee "Patti" Smith (born December 30, 1946) is an American singer and poet.
rose to fame during the punk movement with her 1975 debut album Horses. Called "the godmother of punk", brought a feminist perspective and intellectual punk music and became one of the most influential artists in rock music, integrating it with a beat poetry style.
Her allusions introduced the nineteenth century French poetry to American youth while her androgynous image and unfeminine, defied the disco era. 1975

Horses is the debut album by Patti Smith, published in 1975 by the label label Arista Records, being a key factor in the evolution of New York punk scene.
While filming Horses, Patti Smith and her band were well known in the New York music scene with bands like Blondie and The Ramones. Smith was an admirer of many of the 60 artists as Jimi Hendrix, Little Richard, Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones and Jim Morrison, like Motown and jazz artists like Smokey Robinson and John Coltrane.
